Most of his family is buried at Upper Town Creek Primitive Baptist Church but I have not been able to find where John Henry is buried and where his dad came from. Family stories(aunt,99 yrs,) say we are related to Wms from Warren County, NC, haven't found any evidence. Love you blog.

Kudos to you Ginger! Nice job on the family research! I have gotten interested in the family roots again through a cousin who is writing a book on the Camp side of the family and it includes our Williams side
as she and I have the same Camp great grandmother. My great grandmother was married to Robert James Williams of Swainsboro, Emanuel county Ga. His father was Stephen M. (Monroe or Miles) Williams. Stephen, his brothers Fredrick S.and James T. moved to Bryan county Ga. around 1864-66. Stephen and Fredrick are buried in the Wright/Williams cemetary in Bulloch county near Bryan county.I hope to find the cemetary.
There is a bit of confusion in tracing Col James Williams for some of our family in that we do not know how many times Col James may have been married or if Cousins married or in laws remarried. The DAR papers can not be located for the moment........so the treasure hunt has started. Keep up the great work and I'll be in touch.

Hi Jim, you are welcome. I have so much information and trying really hard to get it on this blog. Thanks so much for reading and good luck trying to prove your connection. Using land deeds is always a great resource in tracking an ancestor's migration!

Ginger: Thanks for such an informative site. I am researching my Williams ancestors from Caswell County (I'm trying to find documentation proving a connection between Bennett Williams in Sampson County in 1840 and Bennett Williams in Person County in 1790 - so far, no luck). I appreciate the detail of your blog and the specifics about where you found specific bits of information.

Steve, do you have a proof document or know where to find one for Nathaniel and Elizabeth's marriage? My grandmother was a Williams and her line runs through Nathaniel.

Hello again. We are no further forward in finding our Jeremiah Brooks (b 1773) parents, but I wonder if the elder Jeremiah may have been either his father or an uncle.

Looking at your notes on witnesses of various Deeds, I saw the name Thomas Neeley (26 April 1800, Caswell Co Deed Book), our Jeremiah's daughter Susan (b 1811) married a Neeley, no first name available unfortunately. In 1817 in the Person County Deed Book, a Jesse Bradsher was named as a witness, Jeremiah's daughter Nancy, born 1798, married James Oliver Bradsher, and they had a son, Joseph Bradsher. I imagine all these people are related, I just wish we could get past the stubborn stone wall of Jeremiah's parentage.

Hi Phyllis,

Stephen Rice, father of Charles Brooks Rice could have been from two different families:
First:
Charles Brooks (above) married Sally Williams. Charles Brooks' brother Christopher married Sally Williams' sister Susannah Williams. So Christopher and Charles Brooks married two Williams sisters. Christopher Brooks died at a young age (< 30), and his wife, Susannah Williams Brooks remarried to William Higgason Rice. William Higgason Rice raised Susannah and Christopher Brooks' young son Christopher Williams Brooks as his own.

Susannah Williams Brooks Rice died about 1795 and William H Rice remarried to Sally Gooch. They had a son named Stephen D Rice, b. 1798 in NC. I only have 4 children listed for this Stephen Rice - William H, Stephen Jr., Eliza, and Minerva, and I believe all of them died in Caswell Co., NC.

Second:
I have a Stephen F Rice b. 1770 md Mary Gooch, daughter of William Gooch and Sally Kerr. Sally Kerr was the daughter of Alexander Kerr and Mary Rice. Sally Kerr's brother was John Kerr. John Kerr's daughter Isabella Kerr married Christopher Williams Brooks, son of Susannah Williams and Christopher Brooks mentioned in #1 above.

It is hard to untangle all of these Rice and Gooch families of Caswell Co., NC. There were two main Rice families - John (b. c. 1798) and Mary Rice and John (b. c. 1720) and Leticia Estes Rice. I think the Brooks family mentioned in my post above came from John and Mary.

If you would like to send me more information about your Charles Brooks Rice and Stephen Rice, feel free to email me at ginger.reney at gmail.com.
